Meeting Mother Theresa
We were in Bombay visiting missionary friends on a very tight schedule in the process of making a documentary about “The Life of a Missionary”. We were on a “world tour” and were scheduled to visit many different missions in different countries. We took a total of 40 flights in 3 months and came across some of the most touching missionary works that I had ever seen or heard of. –People who were giving of themselves at no cost to help their fellow man. Some of them were involved in the more social aspect of helping others, while others were reaching deep down into the hearts of drug addicts, prostitutes and the destitute to draw out their worth and pour into them the love of God.
Dear Latino Friend, we need you
My wife and I spent the last 10 days in Austin Texas where we were able to attend the “South by South West” Music festival. And because we were looking for a gathering of children since I usually make balloons for kids, which gives us an opportunity to talk to parents about raising kids, we were directed to a Latino gathering which was essentially an outside market, also known as a “Pulga”. Both Linda and I happen to love Mexican food, so the thought sounded really good.
The Joy of Giving
I have learned a number of important lessons in regards to “giving” in recent years. If only you take stock of what you have, you realize that there are a number of things in your life that can benefit others, some are material things, but the most important things are the gifts from your HEART.
Actually, the Bible relates to all giving coming from the heart, as otherwise, it doesn’t count.
The most difficult people to interact with are the ones that I call Flatlanders. They are the narrow-minded, the ones that are convinced in their own mind that they are right on the strength of their “own truth”, or what they have decided “works for them” and that becomes all of a sudden, universal truth. And unfortunately, a narrow mind and a wide mouth usually go together.
Attack Your Fears!
My wife and I talk to people all the time. And I would venture to say that the most common problem that people suffer from is fear. It is just so sad to see how so many people entertain fear, and it totally conditions their lives. And it is greatly nurtured by the media, since the News only report bad and sensational stories that make people fear. Social media, and the web are filled with scary pictures and scary stories.
You CAN change the WORLD, by changing YOUR world.
I often hear people say that they are discouraged and they say, “Well, who am I? What can I do? The world’s problems all seem so hopeless and impossible! It looks like there’s nothing I can do to change things for the better, so what’s the use of trying?” And I wonder if that is why so many people just give up and let the worst of the world continue going downhill. The way I look at it is, you may not be able to change the whole world, but you can change your part of the world.
If you have changed one life, you have changed a part of the world, and you have proven that there is hope that it can all be changed! The world can be changed, starting even with one person, just one person.
Have you ever noticed that the people who irritate you the most quite often have the same personalities, or odd habits that irritate, as you do! It is like the picture, when we point at someone and criticize them or even become resentful towards them, then there are four fingers pointing back at you! Jesus said, “Judge not that ye be not judged, for with what measure ye judge, ye shall be judged.” And, isn’t it true, that when we take the time to look deeper into that one who is irritating you so, that you can find the reason for their odd or difficult behavior, and you can, in the end, be the closest of friends. “Love loves the unlovely, and casts a veil over countless sins.”
The Praying Hands
The Praying Hands! This story has inspired artists and the hearts of men everywhere for centuries! Why? Because love reigns again! The most beautiful true life stories are the fruits of real love, sacrificial love, unselfish love, unconditional love, long-suffering love, undying love! –Always about love! It says that God is love, and we love because He first loved us!
Love is the very essence of all Creation, and when we partake of it, and when we live it and give it to others, our lives become a story that inspires others to also know about God’s love!
“Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13) Those words are so beautiful, so pure, so full of life…for what is a better way to live than to give your life in loving service for others, whether your husband, wife, children, friends and family, or those around you who need to know that they are loved. “Laying down one’s life” always means putting yourself last and others first.
The tongue – An unruly member
When I was younger, someone taught me how an unruly a tongue can be! Your tongue can be unruly, or a great blessing…depending on how it used! I will be addressing the ‘destructive’ side of the issue of the tongue!
When you stop to consider that the tongue is a very small member of the body, yet it can cause complete havoc and wreck your whole day and your relationships with others if it gets loose! Of all the weapons of warfare, the tongue has been the most destructive!–That is, a tongue out of control, an unkind tongue, a bitter tongue, a tongue that says harsh critical things and lashes out at others.
